The year 1945 was an active although difficult period. Mr Ian McNeur took over the leadership at the beginning of the year, and began the consolidation of the work of the previous year. After a drop in the roll at the commencement of the session, numbers slowly improved.
A Church Committee was set up in June of 1945, under the chairmanship of Rev. S.C. Francis, and Mr McNeur named as Captain of the new Company. The Girls' Life Brigade Company at St. Pauls' had been registered as the 20th Christchurch Company in May of the same year, and a combined dedicatory Service was planned. The board had made $20 available to the Company, and a pair of tumbling mats was one of the first items purchased.
One of the popular ways of raising money in the early days was the presentation of concerts with the G.L.B. Company. The first such concert was organised by Mr Telfer in July 1945, making a profit of $17. Mr Sewell was interested in the Morse Signalling activity of the Boys, and donated a buzzer the same year. A pair of parallel bars was added to the growing stock of equipment used by the Boys, and the same bars were still in use when the Company closed in 1995. Their cost in 1945 was only $4.10.
By September there was a nucleus of 3 Boys towards the formation of a unit of the Junior Reserve of the Boys' Brigade, a Life Boy Team, both Brigades Committees and Parents committee associated with the Companies were active in their support of all the Brigade groups.
While it was felt that the standard demanded by the Dominion Headquarters of the Boys' Brigade was perhaps unfairly high, before they would permit registration of the unit, the wisdom of the requirements was seen by October of 1945. It was quite apparent that the waiting before the registration, until necessary work had been done, had been beneficial to the standard of the new Company.
The final step was taken on 15th October 1945, when the unit was officially registered as the 6th Christchurch Company of The Boys' Brigade.
Mr McNeur was transferred from Christchurch in November 1945, and the incoming Captain, Mr Richard Yates, expressed appreciation of the sound work Mr McNeur had done during the year.
Registration Year concluded with a Boys' and Girls Parents Evening late in November
